In value terms, Italy ($1.5B), Germany ($1.1B) and France ($482M) were the countries with the highest levels of market value in 2024, with a combined 54% share of the total market. Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, Sweden and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2024 were Italy (171K tons), Germany (150K tons) and Greece (67K tons), with a combined 81% share of total production. Austria, Spain, Poland and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.

For the third consecutive year, the European Union recorded decline in supplies from abroad of copper tubes, pipes and fitting, which decreased by -23.8% to 327K tons in 2024. Overall, imports continue to indicate a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 481K tons. From 2022 to 2024, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, copper pipe and fitting imports fell notably to $4.3B in 2024. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 44%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $6B. From 2022 to 2024, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
The countries with the highest levels of copper pipe and fitting imports in 2024 were Italy (40K tons), France (38K tons), Germany (37K tons), the Netherlands (34K tons), Spain (32K tons), Poland (30K tons) and the Czech Republic (27K tons), together accounting for 73% of total import. The following importers - Belgium (12K tons), Sweden (10K tons) and Portugal (10K tons) - together made up 10% of total imports.
From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +6.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest copper pipe and fitting importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($664M), France ($533M) and Italy ($466M), together comprising 39% of total imports. Poland, Spain, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.
Spain, with a CAGR of +4.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Tubes and pipes of refined copper (149K tons) and tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of copper alloys (105K tons) dominates imports structure, together generating 78% of total imports. Tubes and pipes of copper-zinc base alloys (brass) (30K tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by tubes and pipes of copper alloys other than copper-zinc, cupro-nickel or nickel-silver (19K tons) and tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of refined copper (18K tons). All these products together took approx. 21% share of total imports. Tubes and pipes of copper-nickel base alloys (cupro-nickel) or copper-nickel-zinc base alloys (nickel silver) (5.2K tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2013 to 2024, the biggest increases were recorded for tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of copper alloys (with a CAGR of +1.0%), while purchases for the other products experienced a decline in the imports figures.
In value terms, tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of copper alloys ($1.7B), tubes and pipes of refined copper ($1.7B) and tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of refined copper ($346M) appeared to be the products with the highest levels of imports in 2024, together comprising 87% of total imports.

The biggest shipments were from Germany (69K tons), Italy (68K tons) and Greece (60K tons), together accounting for 70% of total export. Spain (16K tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 5.7% share, followed by Austria (5%) and Poland (4.9%). Finland (8.1K tons) held a little share of total exports.

Exports of tubes and pipes of refined copper decreased at an average annual rate of -2.8% from 2013 to 2024. Tubes and pipes of copper alloys other than copper-zinc, cupro-nickel or nickel-silver experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of refined copper (-1.4%), tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of copper alloys (-2.3%), tubes and pipes of copper-zinc base alloys (brass) (-5.7%) and tubes and pipes of copper-nickel base alloys (cupro-nickel) or copper-nickel-zinc base alloys (nickel silver) (-7.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Tubes and pipes of copper alloys other than copper-zinc, cupro-nickel or nickel-silver (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while tubes and pipes of copper-zinc base alloys (brass) saw its share reduced by -2.6% from 2013 to 2024, respectively. The shares of the other products remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest types of exported copper tubes, pipes and fitting were tubes and pipes of refined copper ($1.9B), tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of copper alloys ($1.8B) and tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of refined copper ($570M), with a combined 88% share of total exports. Tubes and pipes of copper alloys other than copper-zinc, cupro-nickel or nickel-silver, with a CAGR of +2.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exported products over the period under review, while shipments for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
In 2024, the export price in the European Union amounted to $17,245 per ton, increasing by 2.1% against the previous year. Export price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2013 to 2024: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2024 figures, copper pipe and fitting export price increased by +77.2% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2024 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
